Will this fit my older HELIX 9 G2N?

No, it will not. The physical chassis and bezel design of the HELIX 9 changed after the G2N generation. If you have a first-generation HELIX 9 or a HELIX 9 G2N, you will need the Humminbird UC H910 unit cover instead.

Is this a hard plastic shell or a soft cover?

The UC H89 is a flexible, heavy-duty silicone cover. It is soft enough to easily pull over the edges of the display, but thick enough to provide excellent impact and scratch protection for the glass screen.
